THE BEST WAY to create nutrient rich super compost for your garden is by owning a few pounds of Red Wigglers. These small striped red worms can eat their body weight in food every day under ideal conditions. Let’s just think about this for a moment. If you purchased 1 pound of Red Wigglers, you would be able to convert 1/2 to 1 pound of kitchen scraps a day into organic, super compost which is very rich in nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium. There is no better way to keep your kitchen waste out of the landfills. In just three short months you will be able to harvest the castings (yes, it is also known as worm poop) to add to your garden. You can also make compost tea as a foliar feeder for plants.
Because these worms reproduce rapidly, you can start out with a pound or two of red worms and within 3-6 months the population can double.
Outdoor composting is also a great way to dispose of your leftover lettuce and cabbage but it can take months, sometimes
years- and lots of back breaking work turning the pile- for it to turn into compost for your yard. Why not add some Red Wigglers to your pile to speed up the process and create nutrient rich compost. The castings are great as a top dressing for indoor plants as well as its many uses outdoors.
We will be adding information on different ways to harvest your compost, instructions for some great DIY worm bins and more. Make sure you take a look at our care instructions for your composting worms. Red Wigglers take little care just feed them once a week and make sure the bedding stays moist and they will be very happy in their new home.
Northwest Wigglers carries Worm Factory® worm bins and Worm INN worm bins.
